Facilita sponsors the Performance Testing Forum event

Facilita sponsored  the Performance Testing Forum on 19th March 2008.  Gordon McKeown presented a discussion on the applicability of modern development techniques to performance testing.

Synopsis:

Object-orientation with the advantages of inheritance, encapsulation of components and code-re use is the accepted norm for software development, yet seems to have eluded many load testing projects.    To kick the discussion off, Gordon will show how these principles can be applied to performance testing with at least apparent success.  By creating custom Virtual User types and recorder/script generators with rules extensions can the development and maintenance of tests for highly complex applications be simplified?

Other issues that are pertinent include:
  • The difference of approach between “Agile cultures” that tend to write tests for use throughout the development lifecycle and “traditional” testing teams that produce them separately from the developers.
  • Manual script coding vs. record/replay (or record/generate).
  • Are scriptless tests the way forward, or not due to the law of “leaky abstractions” (Joel 2002)?
  • What direction for tools?
